Jocular Cicada C G0/ POWER: 6000/ GUARD: 10000 [Continuous]: When this card gets called onto a RG circle, call it in rest.
[Auto](R): When attacking, during this battle triple this unit's POWER, retire this unit at the end of the battle.(Boost is counted in it's POWER and can be increased)
Today we have what looks to be the clan's unique grade 0 card that usually works as a interesting boost to the clan's identity , such as Cat Butler or Flight Roc or a tech-in card, like Giro which will probably see its relevance in the coming sets (Dimension Police) . Considering that it's number in the listing is 61, that leaves about 5 slots, 1 starter and 4 trigger types, excluding the draw perfect guards of course.
The card itself has a curious effect, being able to triple its power when it attacks, including power from boosts, at the cost of being retired at the end of the turn. On its own, it reaches a small 18000, easy to guard with any grade 1 10000 and above, but with a booster it becomes exponentially more difficult to guard. For example, if you have Phantom Black boosting the unit, when its skill is activated, the total 8000 + 6000 = 14000 is tripled to become 42000. Any other effects that add power to the unit will also be tripled, making this unit an ideal unit to pump up other effects on and send hurtling toward the opponent, forcing them to drop a perfect guard - or a ridiculous amount of cards from hand. The second effect is more of a control restriction, requiring the card to be rested upon call - wherever its called from. This simply prevents the card from being used a s a surprised finisher as the card has to be called at least a turn prior and protected from retire effects and regular attacks.
In comparison to the other gimmicky grade 0s we've seen, this seems the most viable, as it can be used on any turn and has finisher potential. That said, grade 0 units are hard to fit into decks with most players opting for the safer higher grade option to prevent misriding. HOWEVER, this is no ordinary clan nor subtype - THIS IS MACHINING MEGACOLONY (10 points for you if you get the reference). While the card lacks the Machining subtype name, from the Unite Team Q4 set, it seems like Bushiroad is moving away from name dependent subtype breakdowns, allowing cards from older sets to be mixed in with newer ones without drawbacks. That said, one of the key mechanichs of the Machining play style was to call cards from soul at rest, creating the possibility for this card to be run as the clan's alternate starter, alongside the typical ride and draw 1 as the new standard seems to be.
We will have to see what the boss unit skills will be and if my predictions are correct but for now this is an interesting card with a cool effect, and that's really all that's important.
The Destructive Roar drops on 29 June 2018, bringing Spike Brothers, Tachikaze and Megacolony into the fold. Personally I'm really looking forward to Megacolony because I really like the athsthetic. Let me know which of the 3 clans is your favourite and which clan release (not limited to these 3) you're most looking forward to and why!
